Here’s some news for folks who haven’t updated to iOS 7 and remained on iOS 6.1.3 or 6.1.4 in hope for a jailbreak: the jailbreak will be released before the end of the year. Developer Winocm, who’s creating the jailbreak, today announced an estimated time for the release of the jailbreak stating that “a definite ETA is before 2014.”

Why is the jailbreak taking so long? Winocm later explained on Reddit that it takes time to develop a proper jailbreak because he has to test all iPad models. He also talks about other issues like testing the web server and creating a user interface for the jailbreak program.
The main reason why it’s so vague is that work needs to be done for all of the iPad models. In addition, there are some other issues to fix. Don’t mention the fact that a web server and all has to be put up and then controlled beta testing and such.
Do people need a GUI or not? Would the community mind downloading a jailbreak over BitTorrent? (To reduce server load and such.).
There also needs to be preparatory work on the Cydia side to make sure the repositories aren’t overloaded from a massive influx of new users.
No one knows how long this will all take. But, I am fairly certain that this will all happen by the end of this year.
