Starting next week, if you’re an underage teenager, Tinder will delete your account, as confirmed by Tinder VP of Communications Rosette Pambakian. Like other social apps such as Facebook and Instagram, even since Tinder was released back in 2012, the app has allowed minors under the age of 18 but at least 13 to sign up and use the app. The app usually hooks those users within their age category, 13-17.
For now on, any new users will have to be at least 18 year old to sign up for the app. Here’s Tinder’s statement regarding to their new age policy:
“On a platform that has facilitated over 11 billion connections, we have the responsibility of constantly assessing our different user experiences. Consistent with this responsibility, we have decided to discontinue service for under 18 users. We believe this is the best policy moving forward. This change will take effect next week.”
Tinder says that this new policy will not impact most of their users, that less than three percent of their global users are under the age of 18.
