It appears that Microsoft is not doing as good as it was doing with the Xbox 360 in the previous gaming gen. Of all current PS4 owners 31 percent of those owners came from the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii consoles,ย PlayStationโs American VP of marketing John Koller told Kotaku in an interviewed. According to Koller, not only Sony is gaining new customers from their rivals, but from non-console gamers as well. Koller stated that 17 percent of PS4 owners did not own any type of previews generation console at all, not even a PS3. That percentage include hardcore gamers from PC and other systems which Sony call them “connoisseur.”
The person that weโve picked up since launch primarily is someone we call the connoisseur, someone that loves, unequivocally, loves games,โ Koller said. โThey are the people who, when you walk in [to their home], thereโs no books on their book shelves. Theyโre all game packages. Theyโre the people who stood in line at midnight [for the console’s launch]. They really are a fantastic consumer for us. Theyโre a great part of the PlayStation nation.โ
Another trend Koller is noticing is that the PS4 has gained many early adopters, as opposed to people that wait years until the price of the console goes down.
